This works:

This doesn't:

  x equ <1,2,3>
  some_macro x

The symbolic variables are not processed yet at the time when macro is expanded. Unless the macro uses the "&" syntax, the argument passed is in both cases the same - just plain "x". What happens later depends on what the macro does inside.
