does not work because IRP is fasm's directive that gets executed instead. You could try replacing EQU with DEFINE, but there is also another very simple trick that allows to force an identifier to be treated as expression-class instead of instruction-class:
This still defines symbol named IRP, but the dot forces the name to be interpreted an expression-class symbol and not an instruction.
