Is it possible to tell names, numbers and strings apart during macro processing?
I think it isn't, but I'd like a confirmation.

Numbers and names are really the same kind of being for preprocessor - however you can tell the quoted strings from them by using the "match" directive. You do it like this:
Code:
macro tellquoted param
{
  match `param,param \{ display "Yes, it's quoted string." \}
}

Hmm, perhaps it's high time to update the "Understanding fasm" with the "match"-related section.
