I find I can't trust any one single program so I use virustotal for checking things.

hi,
as far as i knew, there is no yet single anti-virus that capable and suit us. like sinsi said, i think the best one is our intuitive, like you sense something goes wrong when the system runs.

like google or double check the process if you suspect something wrong.

It is already too late if you notice something wrong. But also remember that many of the latest malware does not do things to raise the users suspicion. They try to hide as best they can. I think it is best to examine code before you run it.

Hey, I just realised "theinternet" is zipped. I think with all the redundancy a solid 7z file would be more space efficient. Like 1/10th. so that would bring it down to only 2.4PB. Then all you need is a RAID0 with 2400x1TB HDDs.

Do all of your internet stuff in a virtual machine (virtualpc or vmware - bochs is too slow) then you can discard all changes...

Use LUA for everyday work.
Use open-source software whenever possible.
Disable all scripts in your web browser all the time. Only enable them for trusted websites.
Keep critical software up to date.
Think. Don't do overly stupid things like following a "Free XP Antivirus 2009" link or downloading "nude_babe.jpg.exe" from an e-mail attachment, because otherwise you really deserve to be infected.
