three conflicts,
1. I have no Idea how a web browser works (though I can learn) 2. How do the others feel on this Idea? 3. I already know that I do not need windows or a big system to use a computer (although not many people know) some cool ideas, I love the Idea, we could start a second contest based on this idea, If we do I will leave the contest for you to make, I would really like to see what could be done with this, and If we do good enough these small systems do good enough, they would kick butt. (my dad likes small, fast, stable OSes, as does alot of people were I live.) |

I reckon we stick with the original idea, sounds like a challenge.
If people really wanted to have more space then you could always have a couple of categories - lightweight (<2KB) and heavyweight (<64KB). I reckon it'd be fun to see just how much functionality one could fit within only several kilobytes of code. (Ive already been running through ideas for ways to shrink what you need in a kernel.) |

yeah, I kinda like that Idea, or how about,
lightweight (<2kB) normalweight (<64kB) heavyweight (>1.22MB) Hows that? _________________ Want hosting for free for your asm project? You can PM me. (*.fasm4u.net) |

whatweight (>64kB; <1.22MB)
why 1.22MB? it would be more logical to do this: under 4K (less than 8 sectors) <--- my boot sector will be there 4K (8 sectors) 64K (one RM segment) <--- my kernel/lib/shell will be there 1M (entire RM memory) <--- my system will be in this category. over 1M (over RM memory) |

Why 1.22MB? cuz, that way you can put stuff on the floppy other than the OS,
apps, wallpaper, sounds, etc. Oh, and thanks shoorick, that stuff looks old. sorry, It just kinda dose. |

hem, if you look more into menuet 32, you'll see that everything fits in a 1.44MB floppy.
including wall papers, sounds and apps. then, the entire system is not only the basic stuff, but all the content of the floppy. what is an OS? just a way to use the machine. and only OS without anything is not a real OS but just a KERNEL and maybe a little shell. |

I think the rules changed so often that no one is sure what will change next. Once the rules start changing then people don't feel comfortable about continuing for fear of a future rule change making their work obsolete.

Oh... Well it has not changed for a while... I must admit, I did not like them changing so much.

Hello, i am interested in this contest.
(seeing that nobody has submitted an entry, i may just win) :S I think the rules should be simple, like so... 1) only fasm members may enter and/or vote. 2) all code must be in fasm syntax. 3) everything must fit on 1.44 floppy disk. ps: I think you should determine rules before setting a start/ending date. |

bitshifter: I wish you the best of luck, although I think that Coddy41 no longer visits this board. Perhaps Coddy41 will come back before the closing date?

wha? I no longer visit when did I stop!?!? I have just been lurking
@bitshifter: Go ahead, you can make the rules, I'll still compeat, though I will have to start over on my micro os. while I am now re-discovered I should probably come out of hiding for a bit _________________ Want hosting for free for your asm project? You can PM me. (*.fasm4u.net) |

Sounds cool, I am very flexible as you can see.... I do not know if bitshifter
is interested any more _________________ Want hosting for free for your asm project? You can PM me. (*.fasm4u.net) |
