There are two places to get it but I deleted both. I'll look them up in a minute.

Be aware that this download is a Vista only UPGRADE and not a full install. It also EXPIRES in August, iirc, and what happens after that, no one seems to know.

Ah, I see I was confused by this:
ComputerWorld
Quote:
The Windows 7 beta will only upgrade a machine running Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1), although there are reports that systems with the beta of Vista SP2 also can be upgraded.

But they meant Vista will get upgraded if you try and install it with Vista. The very next paragraph says:
Quote:
You can do a clean install of Windows 7 on the PC, assuming it meets the system requirements, but you'll lose all your data and applications.

Well, for me it said:
Quote:
Thanks for your interest in the Windows 7 Beta. The volume has been phenomenal—we're in the process of adding more servers to handle the demand. We're sorry for the delay and we'll re-post the Beta as soon as we can ensure a quality download experience.

Well, I am still upgrading from windows 3.1, so I am a little confused about the naming conventions here. Can anyone help me out?
3.1
95
98
2000
XP
Vista
Shouldn't this be windows 9, rather than 7?
Shocked

Further, in harmony with "95", "98" etc, i.e. using the year as the name of the operating system, shouldn't this be called windows 09?

Finally, in many cultures, (and we know M$ aims for world hegemony), seven is an unlucky number.....

Nine is a lot closer to ten, which is universally admired, and beloved, especially those of us with ten fingers....

There must be a good reason for choosing the wrong number. Is it possible, that they are planning an upgrade in 11, and employ 7 as a rhyming pattern to promote marketing efforts?

you can do a dirty install of win98 or ubuntu on the PC too.
assuming you have enough freedom vs M$.

tom: there were multiple parallel branches of windows, sometimes splitting, sometimes "merging", etc. It is all more complicated.

But check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Windows_Family_Tree.png

Shouldn't this be windows 9, rather than 7?

It's probably more like [...] NT 4.0, Win2K (5.0), WinXP (5.1), Vista (6.0) and Win 7.

Typically Microsoft. Why bother with Vista' anyway?

Are you a bit upset because so many people wanted to try it?

3.11 ; very poor windows, maybe it is possible to remake it easy with fasm, just for fun!

95,98,Me ; the same OS, 98 is a 32, 95 is a 16, Me is a 98 XPed

NT4,2000 ; yeah, it is New Technology!

XP,Vista ; oh fan! it is a toy interface full of windows(r)(c)(tm) updates(r)(c)(tm), SECURITY!!!!! Laughing, great, designed for MSN(r)(c)(tm), wmp(r)(c)(tm), you are not free to do what you want with your hardware...

7 ; seems to be the beta of a poor 7.11 version.

i don't understand why linux don't support V86 dos mode, if it was the case, i would not use no longer this shit(r)(c)(tm) of µ$(r)(c)(tm) windows 98 (r)(c)(tm)

I'm not upset at all. I think it's stupid. How could Microsoft fail with this after just two hours? Ubuntu and other large downloads do this all the time without issue.
Microsoft still underestimates the web
Quote:
for a company that's pushing cloud computing and web services and trying so hard to prove that they're ready to move off the desktop and onto the web, today's Win7 borkfest proves Microsoft is still too clueless about how to do stuff online to be taken seriously.
