kas a lot of AV programs will report an infection simply for "known virus/trojan actions" in a program. Prank programs, registry editors, system tweakers, task managers all cause false positive reports on a regular basis.

The absolute classic was several years ago when Symantec's Norton AV blocked Windows Live Update. BOTH companies posted full page explanations of what was happening plus a work around - either *ignore the warning* or download the updates & install them manually! Neither Symantec nor Micro$loppy wanted to give in & fix it so the situation lasted for months Exclamation

Fantastic stuff Laughing I think I must have been off windows at the time and certainly Norton - so I missed that.

Kas.

PS. Like a Laurel and Hardy AV comedy duo - I think I found a return match from 2006 http://www.cooltechreviews.com/windows-defender-disables-norton-antivirus/ - users cheer!

What can i do with Norton 2010?
It detects fasmw as virus! fasm.exe as virus, beer.exe as virus and my progrm as virus.
Maybe the problem is in header... what field must i edit to pass Norton?

I saw a fix somewhere on the forums for the header being recognized as a virus....I'll try to find it.

EDIT: http://board.flatassembler.net/topic.php?p=81002#81002
That's for an old version of FASM, don't know if it will work right on the newer versions.

At virustotal, I tend to look at Kaspersky & NOD32 first. If any of these give something red I seriously start to suspect something.

What? That just fixes the EXE header. FASM doesn't quite produce a fully correct one(I think it's intentional, though), and that's what sets off virus scanners to give false positives. THAT WOULD NOT HELP A VIRUS IN ANY WAY.
