Ok, I had a cute black kitten but....about a month ago he decided to eat our fish, so we gave him to my aunt that is about 14 miles away(about 22km). Well, today he wandered up our driveway! We called my aunt and she said she hasn't seen him in 3 weeks. It's amazing how a cat can find its way home! Shocked

Btw: hes our outside cat now

And let us not forget the famous FASM fable introduced by Shoorick, of Tiger, who also returned home.

Hm.
Have anyone seriously considered, HOW a cat can cross miles and miles of unfamiliar terrain, going straight towards home?

-A cat can't ask directions.
-The "internal compass" is mostly irrelevant due to positional ambiguity of a direction-only device.
-Smell, visual memory, dead reckoning by remembering all the turns are also implausible due to impossibility, scales, or error levels respectively.

Maybe there are some kind of natural GPS?
Position-unique Earth magnetic field structure that are too small to detect by hardware if you don't know what to look for?
