My favourite is brain making up stuff that it "substitutes" into blind spot, depending on surroundings.

BTW, I remember some reference to research which predicted patterns that are most easily produced in brain (not by actual light hitting retina). Not surprisingly, it included most common near-death experience (tunnel with light at the end). Unfortunatelly, it only had abstract and few commentaries available publicly, rest was for fee Sad

Well, it doesn't stop at the eyes - our relationships to external things is mostly made up. From our physical body to our close relationships we all play tricks on ourselves. Communication is a fun one - so many people say more than they ever intend to -- revealing their internal perceptions. Another case is where someone completely "walks around" something that should be communicated. I love when this is done playfully with an "in tune" partner - in fact most other communication is so flat.

Isn't this a large area of research in cognative sciences?
