But speaking seriously it is hard to know the truth hearing only one side. Media war is cruel too - those who aren't within the deadly truth [un]forcefully involved by media to be for someone against somebody.

here's a language map, and here's a more conventional map showing the all important OIL pipeline.
Hmm.
Where have we seen this before?
asmfan wrote:

As the linguistic map reveals, the region has a lot more than just two sides to this equation. There appear to be three major language groups: Caucasian, Indo-European, and Altaic. What do you want to bet, that the Altaic influence in turn, reflects two big invasions, one by the Mongols, one by the Turks. The Persian influence (Ossetian) could be VERY ancient. Were the Caucasian linguistic groups the first to "settle" the region? Does anyone know anything, really, about this history?
Much as we may decry the USA, Brazil, Mexico, Russia and China for suppressing indigenous people, and imposing one culture, one language, one system of government on huge areas of land, still, this regional conflict in Georgia illustrates one advantage to such uniformity: fewer deaths, fewer refugees, less suffering. The Ossetians seek political and cultural independence from Georgia, for long standing linguistic reasons. The Persians cannot deliver them. Persia's erstwhile ally, the Russians, can assist the Ossetians. The USA, which seeks the oil, no matter who is in charge, simply cares about the inanimate pipeline, not the people, of course. The inevitable conflict will lead to a larger conflagration, involving Iran, in my opinion. Look to the USA to attempt to trigger public backlash against the Russians as a manoeuvre to invade Iran.
OIL.
End of story.
Sorry to be so cynical....

things escalate
Russia: Poland risks attack because of US missiles
Moscow warns it could strike Poland over US missile shield
Russia: Poland risks attack because of US missiles
Russia: US missiles in Poland won't go unpunished

i got a feel that all this events are devised and scheduled by US. once they secured the strategic location, IRAN is the next.

the previous high oil price might be a test performed by the US to see how the world react, when the real war started. or the US simply stocked the oil for the coming war with iran. who knows.

agree, sadly.
Why haven't the various news media in USA focused upon the link, if there is one, as paranoid fanatics like me believe, between Ossetia and Poland's decision to install the missiles aimed at Russia. Can you imagine the uproar if Russia or China were to place missiles in Cuba? Oh, we already saw that uproar, didn't we? Hmm. Why would Georgia be so stupid as to attack Russia, unless USA (to thank Georgia for its loyalty in supporting the invasion of Iraq) encouraged the government to proceed. Gee, gosh, umm, didn't Poland have some troops in Iraq, too????
The gangsters are running amok.

12 Year Old Girl Tells the Truth on Fox News about Georgia. Fox News even had to cut them off right in the middle of the account of Georgian aggression even though they had just come from a commercial break 2 minutes prior to that. Fox News and corporate media do not want the truth out. The MSM wants to depict Russia as the Evil Russian Empire. What the population at large do not know is that the US is threatening Russia with a Missile shield defence in many countries. How would the US react if the reverse were true. Georgia poked the bear which is not a wise thing to do. Especially when the poking causes thousands of deaths. Every main stream news agency in the world feeds the world propaganda every day!!!!This is not just an American Flaw!!!!!!

yeah, saw that fox video too...
what we could see now is, the US is trying very hard, really hard, using its media, to provoke Russia.

if you channel your news to russian news media, such as, http://english.pravda.ru/ , one would have totally different news title and content that reffer to the same event.

the "truth" is.
Georgian invaded south ossetia, (since most of the people there got Russia passport ~ consider this a smart early move by Russia several years ago), so Russian got "excuse" / "reason" to help them to drive out the invaders.

what the west media misses here is, it is Georgian through it third-party armies and its own armies tat started all this mess. West media accused Russia invaded Georgian and don't want to leave. Most of the western news media repeated US already commanded Russian to leave Georgia several times already and Russia agreed but delay or didn't honour their promised.

Georgia is a piece of chess by the US gov, the real aim for US is to provoke Russia, hopefully let others countries in that regions to turn into US.

Pride is a thing that hard to swallow, now it seems most people misunderstood Russia.

i could see tat US doesn't have the intention to war with Russia, after all US to Russia is quite some distance. So, those who are in the center of the maps.... will suffer. if EU is smart, they should formed a coalition that without US, but they are stupid. NATO is just another name for US gov.

btw, i am not so postive about the obama could be the next US president, SWIM actually quite certain he would faced the same fate as John Kennedy

Thank you asmfan, very informative. I watched Fox news this morning, wondering if there may have been a slightly more objective perspective, either on Ossetia, or the antimissile shield in Poland. However, the propaganda machine is in its full glory--blaming Russia for all the evils of the world.
Citizens of USA perhaps don't want to learn the truth. We grew up, since childhood, believing, and singing, and chanting, that USA wears the white hat, and Russia wears the black hat.

Yeah, unfortunately, McCain has a slight lead at this point, when, rightfully, he ought to be 25% points below Obama. We can only hope that the economic situation worsens between now and November....If a shooting war breaks out, in the next two months, involving Persia, or Russia, or North Korea, then, McCain will win the election.

Doesn't it say something about liberalism in this country that they have to resort to hoping for bad things to happen in order to have a chance of winning the election? I can see Harry Ried and Nancy Pelosi huddling and articulating what you expressed tom, "oh let's hope the US econmy goes in the toilet .... oh let's hope we lose the war, .... oh. let's hope gas prices remain high .. until November ..". The welfare of the country be damned, the only thing that matters is getting into power, right?

Hmm. Well, first of all, I agree with your criticism of my facile comment. I should have phrased it differently. How about this:
Unless the USA economy worsens, Obama's chances of gaining the presidency appear rather slender, as the electorate focuses on foreign affairs, unrelated to the war in Iraq.
The point I should have made, but did not, is that McCain's strength is foreign affairs, not economics. Obama's weaknesses are many, but foremost among them, we may reference experience dealing with foreign officials. However, in my oinion, Obama's judgement is far superior to that of the current president, Bush, who similarly had little exposure to foreign officials, when he became president.
Sorry if I wrote in such a sloppy fashion as to suggest that I don't care about the "welfare" of the country, though, to the extent that this "welfare" reflects imperialist, naked aggression against Iraq, and many other countries, I guess I really do feel quite ambivalent about USA's starving masses--we do rank #1 in something, at least: obesity.
Discussing rank order, here's a reference from the CIA which shows that I am clearly wrong, in my assessment of our USA economy being so terribly in debt. Perhaps the USA economy is not in as terrible shape after 8 years of tax breaks for the wealthy, (and socialism for the Bear Stearns Investors,) as I, and other Ron Paul supporters, imagine.
