Hehe, this silly graphic was not tested well. It currently says 1 days ...

I wonder what will happen when it reaches zero?

Some people will end up with no money, cause they spent it on Ark(s) of all kinds!

And that silly graphic also displays "1 hours", "1 minutes" and "1 seconds".

Perhaps the world really will end with such poorly thought out programming like that? Whatever happened to pride and quality in a developer's work? Maybe all these new-fangled HLL languages with gigabytes of libraries are making us forget about the details and expecting everything to happen automatically?

It's probably written by an ex-assembly programmer who's worried about the speed decrease by adding several conditional jumps and even more string manipulation... Smile

Shouldn't be all that hard. Untested but you get the idea:
Code:
empty_string db '',0
english_plural db 's',0

proc print_countdown time_remaining
  locals
              days dd ?
           plural_days dd ?
           hours dd ?
           plural_hours dd ?
           minutes dd ?
           plural_minutes dd ?
           seconds dd ?
           plural_seconds dd ?
           formatted_stuff rb 1028
        endl
;omitted code to compute integer values for days, hours, minutes and seconds
        mov eax,english_plural
  mov ecx,empty_string
    cmp [days],1
    cmovne edx,eax
     cmove edx,ecx
     mov [plural_days],edx
   cmp [hours],1
   cmovne edx,eax
     cmove edx,ecx
     mov [plural_hours],edx
  cmp [minutes],1
 cmovne edx,eax
     cmove edx,ecx
     mov [plural_minutes],edx
        cmp [seconds],1
 cmovne edx,eax
     cmove edx,ecx
     mov [plural_seconds],edx
        invoke wvsprintf,addr formatted_stuff,'%d day%s, %d hour%s, %d minute%s, %d second%s',addr days
;omitted code to render it ...
      ret
endp

I suppose a passing of asteroid Apophis (or is it Anubis? Smile) will count as
a real test. It is about a decade away. It will pass so close, that Earth will change its trajectory in a very strong way -- 60 degrees deflection possible.
So, after the pass (if it will not actually hit) -- its orbit must be re-calculated
again to see what happens on the next pass in 2036.

We are good for now, but we'll see how good it will be in a decade...

I wonder what we (as in the Earth's population) would do if we discovered an asteroid that was on a collision course with Earth? Could we really bring ourselves together and work in unison to save ourselves? Or would we squabble, fight, argue and be too selfish to organise ourselves effectively and divert the impact?

You have mistake in your source. The reverse engineering of the Universe code shows following:
Code:
start:
    test eax, eax
    jz endOfWorld?
    dec eax
    jmp start

endOfWorld?:
    jmp start

maybe somehow US or China or India,
fire some long range bomb, disintegrate the asteriod after it enters atmosphere,

i was thinking some bio virus outbreak would really kill the whole earth population,

maybe people will only work together after they saw corpse of bodies,

we probably reach 21 billion population earlier than we would expect and handle,

imagine food, water crisis,
more legislation to control,
less forest, more weird weather,
more religion craziness, idiots,

the future is kinda dark if we don,t change course now,

Maybe:
Code:
start:
     test rax,rax
       jz endOfWorld?
   dec rax
   ;live, love and be happy
    jmp start
endOfWorld?:
     or rax,-1
      jmp start
