What is it with DEADBEEF that people like to use it so much? My favourite is BADCF00D (bad sea-food).

(Did a dictionary lookup - these are some of the more interesting.)
Code:
r[s_] := StringReplace[
   StringJoin["$", ToUpperCase[s]], {"L" -> "1", "O" -> "0",
    "S" -> "5", "T" -> "7"}];
t = DictionaryLookup[("a" | "b" | "c" | "d" | "e" | "f" | "o" | "s" |
      "l" | "t") ..];
r /@ %; Partition[Riffle[t, %], 2] // TableForm
Mathematica code for list.

0xDEAD is a good way of indicating your program has cleaned up all of it's threads and exited ("truely dead"). Most programs don't mind it (e.g.: consider it to be a generic nonzero) and most debuggers (e.g.: the people) understand it too. Very Happy

I think I've seen this trick around some "Microsoft" programs as well.

0=O
1=I or l
2=Z
4=q
5=S
6=G
7=T
9=g
A=A
B=B
C=C
D=D
E=E
F=F
Ox=OX

I have about 3400 words with all those combinations, but using I and L within the same word is rather confusing (which commonly occurs in 800+ from the list). So, I've created a revised list which excludes I with L words.

Here are some of the long words:
Code:
$7E55E11A7E5        tessellates
$7E55E11A7ED     tessellated (prime)
$7A771E7A1E5     tattletales
$51EA2EBA115     sleazeballs (prime)
$F1A6E11A7E5     flagellates
$F1A6E11A7ED     flagellated
$E157EDDF0D5     eisteddfods
$D1550C1A7E5     dissociates
$D1550C1A7ED     dissociated
$D15AFFEC7ED     disaffected
$DEE5CA1A7E5     deescalates
$DEE5CA1A7ED     deescalated (prime)
$DEC011E7A6E     decolletage
$C011EC7AB1E     collectable
$C01DB100DED     coldblooded
$CA57E11A7ED     castellated
$A110CA7AB1E     allocatable
$D155A715F1E5    dissatisfies
$D155A715F1ED   dissatisfied
$D15A550C1A7E   disassociate
$DEC011E7A6E5   decolletages (prime)
$C011EC7AB1E5   collectables
$D15A550C1A7E5  disassociates
$D15A550C1A7ED disassociated

*now, if I need a large prime quickly I can just remember "sleazeballs". Laughing

once i wrote a forth for mine 8080 pc - i let there base to be up to 37, not only 2..16. then, all letters could be used as numbers up to "Z" depending on base. but then apeared a conflict with real words - there was no "0x" prefix used for numbers which contain symbols Smile
