I bought a DS20L (1U Dual 833 MHz 21264B server) a few days ago. I'm interested in learning/playing with Alpha assembly.

Here are some good links I've found
Alpha Assembly Language Guide
Assembly Language Programmer's Guide
Alpha Architecture Handbook version 4
Motion Video Instructions (MVI) -- akin to MMX, but a much smaller number of instructions
Dynamic Memory Allocation

If there's interest here, I may figure out how to make some shell accounts on this box for forum members to use. Note, I'll be May at the earliest before I can get the box up and running.

Any interest in shell accounts?
Any experience with Alpha Assembly?

I'm curious as to what your final plans are for the server. Surely it is quite dated now and it's usefulness is somewhat limited? But, sadly, I've no time to work with it.

I've wanted to get my hands on an Alpha for quite sometime now. Really, I want it because it's different. It's a new experience tinkering with it.

I'll probably do something productive with it though. Testing Gentoo packages, X.org probably doesn't have enough Alpha testers either. Plus, I bought a Radeon X1550 PCI to throw in it. R500 support isn't complete yet, but it'll be there within the year. On top of that, I'm going to try to submit patches for xf86-video-ati, and with hardware as obscure as an Alpha, there is probably some patching necessary.

So, it'll be my play thing, in all honesty.
