windwakr here is your (highly magnified) half-star, along with half of the prestige generously bestowed by revolution. Of course the good news is that half of the prestige equals all of it
Code:
```  \   |   /
\ | /
---- o ----    ```
Wow, a whole half of a star, THANK YOU!
EDIT:
Ignore anything I had down here before the edit, I am an idiot.
windwakr: I didn't want it to be pi=3, that is clearly wrong. The answer, as has now been revealed, is the correct way (and of course puts you back where you started), is mathematically correct and does not lead to a nonsense answer.
I do not want the other problem to end up with 1=2 and still somehow be correct, that is not possible. But there is a way within the standard mathematical constructs to show this equation without leading to a nonsense answer.
You could change line 8 to:
x(x-1) = (-x+1)(-x-1)
And end it there.
Yeah, I guess you could do that. But it won't help to get a star, hehe.
I've made myself a revolution prize star. It looks pretty real, eh?
You will never discover the secret of how I make the stars, so don't even bother to try, because you will fail.
But that is not a prize star. You see, I told you you couldn't do it, just believe me okay, you are just wasting your time.
Yes, THAT is a real star! How about giving those away from now on?
BTW: Is it just me, or do the forums seem REALLY slow lately(Slow as in not much activity, not slow as in a slow connection to the server). I mean, other than main and heap there's been almost no activity in like the past week.
Okay, but you have to pay for shipping. Deal?
The posts ebb and flow on a seemingly random basis. Don't worry about it, things always pick up sooner or later.
Hmm I didn't see what you wrote. I hope you still think you deserved that whole half of a star (or was it a half of a whole star? )
That's weird, the minus-plus character (∓, 0x2213) shows correctly in the edit box, but not in the main thread view in a code tag
On my PC the plus-minus character shows correctly in the edit box but the minus-plus character shows as two exclamation marks !! in the edit box. According to my info ascii 13h is displayed as !!, while ascii F1h is the plus-minus character. Is 2213h a UTF16 / unicode definition?
Yes, 0x2213 is the UNICODE mapping for minus-plus.
The code box seems to strip the high order byte before generating the html code for display, that is why you get 0x0013 in there. I guess phpBB decides that no one would want to use the full UNICODE characters in code.
