asmrox: macro???

Usually server assigns only small part of it's bandwidth to single connection. Download accelerator tricks it by opening several connections to same server, thus getting bigger part of it's bandwidth. But it doesn't always work.

Most download accelerators can also use alternate sources for the same file, ie you could add all of ASUS' usa, euro, international and asian mirrors when downloading... which is sorta necessary, because their servers suck Razz. Some of them also support automated web/ftp search for alternate mirrors, but I rarely use that since most of the time it's slower doing those searches (unless the primary server doesn't let you gain a lot of speed by using multiple connections).

Some people claim that download managers/accelerators aren't necessary since internet connections are faster and more stable these days, but if I need to grab big files from ftp or http (or a moderately sized (10+ megabtyes) from ASUS' shit-servers), I use them anyway - it feels bad to have a 20mbit connection downloading at 100kb/s Razz

Afaik wget only has resume functionality, and can't make multiple connections to one server... I very rarely need to resume, but I do need the multiple connections Smile
