I have mentioned this in this OS forum, and Vid pointed me here, but maybe we could have outlines for how to go through the Intel Manuals (for maybe all three 16bit, 32bit, and 64bit). The problem with why many people don't look to them in the first place is their bulk and uncertainty as with where to begin.

MazeGen had a good outline for 64bit which we could start with, and though many may say that the other two topics are outdated, I myself don't have a 64bit machine.

What do you all think?

mentioned mazegen's article is here: http://x86asm.net/articles/x86-64-tour-of-intel-manuals/index.html

do you think this should be linked from "important threads"? It is not a FASM borad thread, and is (in theory) not releated to FASM.

Probably, as most people only want to see something FASM specific, though I feel as though this is of high importance.

Well this is how i work with assembly:

Initially I started off with a simple down to basics win32-assembly tutorial
http://www.madwizard.org/view.php?page=tutorials.contents (MASM but still pretty simple to change to FASM)

Basically because I was naive to think that 16-bit assembly would not be beneficial.

Then when I got competent enough to do simple stuff and re-read that linked tutorial about 20 times Razz. I ventured into the Intel Manuals.

Basically Volumes 2 and 3 are good for searching for instructions you might need and would like to use ... or use MazeGen's brilliant table somewhere on www.x86asm.net .

Once you found your instruction of choice in Volumes 2/3 you can search on how to use them in Volume 1.

Not sure if this was pretty obvious but hehe its what I do Wink.
