Just was wondering if any people have upgraded to Windows Vista yet.

i did have vista on my new machine, but i deleted it. It suuuuuuuuuuucks so much, even with 2 GHz and 2GB RAM.

no really, many guys working in MS are very good, but some incompetent managedements fuckyards let it fuck up totally on few silly things

I answered yes, but wish to qualify that here. I use Vista x64 as a target OS for my fasm based Windows device driver. I don't use it for development or general use. My daughter does use that machine to surf the web and chat with her friends. The only thing I use it for is to pound on it.

No real need to upgrade. I already have Win XP 64-bit edition for x64 development, but I don't use it for general use, because it suxs (no drivers available, often behaves differently from 32-bit XP, etc.)

I qualified for the free upgrade when I bought my new computer, so I didn't have to pay the ultra high price for even just an upgrade version.

I haven't had any problems using vista, Thomasz's flat assembler works niceley on it. Most of my examples from my website work good on it.
The interface improvments are much better than in XP in my opinion. Just installed it a few days ago so haven't been able to really dive into all the improvements.

try it on computer shop. but somehow just don't really feel want to use it. maybe someday in future would vlite it and try.

No not yet. I will wait for the first service pack to get a more mature Vista.

I still haven't downgraded the ugly Windows2000 with the uglier WindowXP, go figure if I downgrade to the even uglier and more unstable Vista!

Vistax64 is the most solid OS I have ever used, period. As for being ugly? Vista is the first Win OS that isn't ugly, in fact assuming you are running it on the level of hardware it was designed for it's beautiful. If you aren't running it on the level of hardware it was designed for or consider Vista Aero to be ugly than you are an idiot, plain and simple.

I will get Vista........when i get to uni and get it free . But, probably a Linux distro would be my main environment and vista would be a build environment lol.

Voted no since much development I'm doing is targeting WM5/WM6 and that doesn't work at all on Vista.
I will keep my old trusty XP (32-bit) as long a there are no support for what I need.

Vista... too big and bloated and slow, and doesn't (yet) have anything new to show, just higher memory and cpu consumption. Some of the kernel changes (I/O priority scheduling!) sound interesting, but all the added interface shit and DRM suckyness eat up any advantage the kernel improvements would bring.

I consider Aero to be ugly, so call me an idiot. I don't like my OS to look like fischer-price, I want clean and simple, win2k style. Yeah, you can disable Aero on Vista which helps, but still... bleh.

We'll be forced on Vista sooner or later though, unless something radical happens. Microsoft have already started making things that would run perfectly fine on XP vista-only (halo 2, for instance). I also don't see a reason why DX10 couldn't be adapted for XP; implementation would be different from Vista, but since it's a rather high-level API, well...

Who cares about Vista?! I have Windows Server "Longhorn" and it runs fine (Dunno if the fact that I have the Datacenter Edition installed has anything to do with it). Takes up 50-60% RAM without Aero, but 60-80% with Aero (1GB). And Longhorn is designed for SPEED! Even then, you have to be careful about what OS you choose... I am going to switch to real 64-bit soon (instead of 64-bit emulators), so I can test my OS in a real environment rather than running QEMU. But Windows Server "Longhorn" is the most stable Server OS I have ever used! Besides, I reckon Windows XP was ugly... the Luna themes looked like it was drawn in MacPaint by a five-year-old!

Wait until a few updates are released after the Service Pack, then when you install Vista, then immediately install updates after all your other apps have been successfully installed.

BTW, Does anyone notice a bug with Aero Glass when you maximize the windows...?

I have bought it and installed it ...
I have removed it from my PC just after a day of using. It basically SUX. Most of my programs r not workin on it (i.e. zone alarm, nero tools and loads of other applications I cant be asked to list here ...). The performance of new OS was just like old win's (on 'old-win-style' which im used to have selected). It runs loads of crap in the background, most of that u cant turn off... but well nothin is perfect (from my experiene, definatelly not the 'children of M$' lol)
