I learned how to use VGA this weekend, and it's all nice and stuff, but VGA is just plain old. Laughing

So my question was, what's the modern equivalent of VGA? How do I output a line to the screen? Where is the video-memory for my screen?

I know you can use OpenGL or D3D to render stuff, but I want to create my own very simple (as in, not many functions) render method. Just for fun/experience.

Thanks in Advance,
Nick

EDIT:
Anyone? Please? Hahaha.. I'm normally not this impatient, but maybe I put a wrong title up there or something. I'm a newbie on this subject, but I would really like to learn more about it.

I think answer to your question is VESA which has defined a set of video modes. These video modes are supported by current video cards.

Easiest way to draw a line is to write directly into linear frame buffer memory (=the start of video memory). Of course you need to have a working line drawing algoritm implemented. I hope this one helps you a bit Smile

Here's a good starting point: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VESA_BIOS_Extensions
