Have you tried another diskette?

KERNEL MNT? roughly translates into: Can't read from the diskette.

or maybe you compiled your own KERNEL and its broken or maybe you really don't have it on or other possibilities....

24 MB RAM? I'm not sure Menuet32 will run with such little memory (but 32 MB seems to work okay). Also, all the versions (since a few years) require a Pentium at least.

As far as the floppy being bad, you need perfect floppy (no bad sectors). I think you can try format a: /u to recheck marked bad sectors. I'm no expert though, so take this with a grain of salt! Razz

I just encountered this same problem. I loaded Menuet32 on a 32mb usb flash drive. It ran fine (aside from the usb mouse Sad ) on my amd 64 3200+, asus k8n-sli, 756mb ram, blah blah, similar setup to the development computer.

I then tried it on another Amd 64, 3500+ I believe (some Compaq configuration) and got that KERNEL MNT? error mentioned above. Maybe it has something to do with 32bit. I'll try a 64bit image on the flashdrive and see if I encounter the same problem.

I'm putting my money on the floppy emulation of the compaq PC. The BIOS managed to load the bootsector, but i geuss it isn't emulating the FDC functions?

Is it still floppy emulation if the BIOS has an actual setting to boot from USB removable storage?

Yes, the boot code uses BIOS calls to access the diskette, it's up to the BIOS to handle the calls. Some BIOSes are smarter than others Smile

dont worry about the bios problems anymore, try my new bootsector which is designed for booting from USB flash disks. Only requirement is menuet needs boot option "boot from previously loaded image" which is no longer in official release but its in some old releases and kolibri still has it in current releases.

find the boot sector here... http://board.flatassembler.net/topic.php?p=51973#51973

It looks like you are trying to run 64bit MenuetOS on a 32bit computer.

Download the installer or disketteimage for MenuetOS32 and try that.

I have been getting the same error as well when booting from a USB flashdrive. My machine is newer (with 1gb of ram). Just wanted to add my name to the list in case someone figures out how to solve this.
