Hello All,

I am impressed with MenuetOS but am having large issues getting a bootable floppy.

Here is what I have done thus far;

1. Downloaded the new .83B img file.
2. Downloaded WinImage.
3. Used Winimage to extract the image to floppy.
4. Tried to boot with floppy on 5 computers...and no go.

The problem is the computers are not recognizing it as a "bootable" floppy.

On a side not, I downloaded an old version like 2 years ago and I got it working just fine. But it has 2 files that the new one does not- they are minstall.exe and msetup.exe.

So what am I doing wrong? Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

And good job on a new OS !!

Very Happy

If you are only extracting the files themselves from the image and storing them on the floppy, that won't work.

pure/real DOS: Use DSKCOPYX.ZIP (src)

WIN: Use RawWrite for Win.

P.S. If you're interested in other OSes, see FASM @ Wikipedia. That list doesn't (yet) include other OSes written in FASM that don't run it (e.g., Smiddy's?, TetrOS?, BOS?, Nano OS?, DebugOS? LocOS? CDpod? etc.).

Two possibilities are your bios isn't setup properly to read the floppy as the first boot disk. Check your hard disk isn't the first boot disk.

Or maybe you copied the files from winimage to the floppy instead of writing them i.e in winimage\Disk "Use floppy A:" then "Write disk" or "Format and write disk".
I just checked M32-083B.IMG and did the above on my computer and it worked fine.

Hope this helps.

I feel silly. Yes, I did just extract from WinImage and copy straight to floppy.

MichaelH<> I did the "format and write" option and woohoo...it worked.

rugxulo<> thank you for your input as well.

Now, off to check it out and see if perhaps I can write something interesting and give away for fun. I did assembly in high school (was more than a day or 2 ago) so I will see how much I retained.
