Would someone P L E A S E tell me how to use a Linker to link my dumped exe back to a working executable. I used Peditor 1.7 to dump one of my Fasm build executable. If no one know how to do this . .. would anyone know of a tool I can use, commercial or freeware.

It took me nearly two month to build it for my own personal use and only a day to loss it all. I accidently deleted my whole Fasm setup and sources and was lucky to find that I had dumped it twice on a difference drive where my tools resides.

I learned the biggest lesson of my life when it when come to using those wipe drive programs. They really work Sad I'll never play with it again.

I am desperate ... can someone please help.

The dumped files are named

0.peheader
1..code
2..data
3..idata
4..rsrc

What's in those files? If they're just a binary copy of the program exe contents then you could do "copy /b peheader+.code+.data+.idata+.rsrc program.exe" to put it back together.

Sorry I did not get back until now to at lease say thanks. Thanks Goplat. I tried your idea but it did not work for me. I searched the web for more ideas that lead me to the -crack house- Sad (cracker sites) and read a post that said it can't be done with Peditor or without some serious time spent in the effort to try. I tried anyway since that was what i used to dump the file to begin with ... I wish i did it with IczDump ... Even if it is possible it may take me weeks if not months to learn if he was right or not. So back to the drawing board. I am still trying it for a while anyway, using other tools and ideas. I have learned a lot behind all of this. More that the average coder will ever have to worry about. (P E) really mean ... The pit of HELL than you still got to work your way down ....

Seriously

Thanks again

F9, there are a few things you should be aware of:

  • don't feel bad, losing data files happens to everyone eventually
  • backup to floppy, CD-R, DVD+RW, extra HDs, whatever!
  • upload your important files somewhere

    • put them on a personal Geocities homepage
    • e-mail them to yourself
    • post your .ASM sources here at this forum

  • don't worry, rewrite! (I've noticed that rewriting what was lost is a lot easier, and the code turns out MUCH better/cleaner/useful)
  • relax! don't stress out over it! play a game for a bit to chill out!
