Hy there,

Is it possible to access the interal pc speaker to create some sounds in MenuetOS? I can`t get the soundblaster driver to work, so I thought about accessing the internal pc speaker.

Way back in the 90's there was a driver I downloaded that outputed all audio to the pc speaker. And it worked, just wasn't very loud.

Thanks for all your answers.
My problem is, that I tried some code pieces that I found on the internet and none of them worked in MenuetOS. Has anyone a good ressource that works?

Hi all,
I wrote the pc speaker driver for BeOS. PWM is quite soft unless you amplify the output (great on laptops), however you can get reasonable quality. The algorithms are quite simple, but you need access to the speaker IO port. Email me if you want any details at:

For version 0.70, look at the download section at http://sf.net/projects/v2os/

For version 0.64 you need the kernel, and at least writeos.exe from the Tools part of the Downloads section (assuming you are using Windows 9x or DOS). for Windows NT and later, use the iXXXX tools to create an image first (you need at least iWRITEOS.EXE) and put it on a floppy with rawrite2 of fdimage (see Google).
More info on the 0.6x versions is available at the old version of this site: http://v2os.cx/old/

I know I need the kernel, but isn't there a zipfile wich includes evrithing I need? I'd really like to try this OS.

Just a quick note:

It seems that a userspace program cannot directly access the pc speaker. Only implementing the routines (speakeron, speakeroff, setFrequency) directly into the kernel was the way to go.
