FASM is not MASM, and it only partially supports some of its syntax (through fancy macros). So, don't expect a MASM clone that will assemble your MASM code without errors. But, if you want to write stuff from scratch, FASM is plenty good enough.

FASM is on the top level of assemblers, every one of them is good, but slightly different in it's logic, and it's only about what you like more.
