why is it treated specially? in fasm it is normal name character like "a" or "4".

I can imagine it may be helpful in names like "mystruc.member", but it is also extremely annoying when skipping local labels (".ano") with CTRL+arrow

ctrl+arrow default behavior is to stop on each word. A dot divides a word from another so your suggestion would break the standard way.

no, dot is part of word in FASM. Just like "a" or "@" or "1"
