After programming a lot in ASM for DOS, and then for Win32, I now want to learn how to create a (simple) OS.
I need some good tutorials to get me started and some good and easy emulator so I don't need to reboot my machine every time I need to change something.
I plan to at least be able to create an OS that will boot from floopy in real mode and show some comand prompt, and also later I be able to build some kind of boot sector tools for system recovery (like those emergency disks) and bootable games! Very Happy

Thanks!

http://www.osdever.net <-- Has the best tutorials I've seen. They really helped me understand the basic. I can't really give you any links to ASM tutorials, becuase the OS I am working on uses C.

Coincidentally, the OS that my friend and I are working on (or were working on, it's kind of on hold atm) is also a game system. It's called Cerberus, and we plan on implementing a 3D engine and a Linux driver layer.

Anyway, on the subject of an emulator... I use Bochs when working on linux and VMWare when working on Windows. I don't like using Bochs on Windows for some reason. Once I get a good linux distro, I'm going to use it as my full time dev system. I am running Fedora Core 4 atm, but I would like to upgrade to Fedora Core 5. But it's pretty big, even for highspeed internet.

Hopefully that helped you out. (I honestly don't see how it would. I mostly just ranted)
