it's not only illegal it's against the constution. You are allowed to say record play what ever you want. this is a protected right. i can understand if they made a copy from copyrighted book but if they are doing just from listening how can you copyright somone's memory?

What can I do if I utter a few words and then claim that they are my copyright? It seems that I can make some money! Wow, now I want to sue everyone that tries to put my words on a website. Haha, just kidding of course, but that is where it will all end up. Any utterance could theoretically be claimed as lyrics to some song and therefore always owned by the original sayer. Redicularity abound.

even if they did make it illegal people would still do it. for instance millions of people download music and movies for free. it would just annoy people and it wouldn't solve the problem.
