Please can someone help me with an example of a shared library in linux?

Im looking for some source and instructions on assembling the library.

Ideally the example would have one (or more) functions that are available to
users of the library.

Im trying to make an example Linux/Win32 source that deals with DLL's/SO's so I can post it back as a tutorial.

Rgs, James.
