one more problem... restart when installing some programs and drivers... boring...
some bug with ctrl to switch focus, doesn't works some times...
automatic fragmentation instead of automatic defrag...
gradual apparition for menus
very bad floppy driver.
format all drive instead of format only the fat...
cleaning the windows folder... to much sub folders...system, system32, inf, drivers, etc etc
to much strange programs in windows folder, taskmon, drwatson, arp, clspack... if they don't do anything apparent, they are useless...
don't support XP drivers...
no serious documentations, closed source...
obscurantisms and superstitions voluntarilly maintained, to make users very idiot and ignorant.. clic, clic, ok, next, help, updates???
...

boring win98
my pc as crashed together, the first have his C:\ broken, cause: a kick on the case.
second: winxp ntldr deleted on win98 drive. ho shit...

is there any method to recover a sane win98? seems to be impossible, always telling me ntldr is absent, but i don't care.. i just want to restore win98... ho shit, i'm really fed up of wind0ws, it's not a good OS.
xp is limited, vista is more limited, 98 is poor and buggy, 95 is sad and 98.
tryed ubuntu 7.10 on my machines, and told me that i need to upgrade my bios to boot linux, but my bios is the last version, the 2003 one... where goes MY world?

maybe you could try stop using computer for a while...
i experience last time last about 3 months (if i am not mistaken)
totally ditch computer, no keyboard touching Razz

i think nowadays, the choices are either, winxp, win2k, winviste, or win2k3, win2k8, or bsd & linux... (with their brothers and sisters distros)

problem with us is, we want everything we want to do to be inside a box. (since our machine is so powerfull nowadays)

some os are good, but become bad because they try to do everything. imo.

Use the last .chm version of the PlatformSDK (ie, htmlhelp v1 instead of the more recent v2) - it has compatibility tables that show 9x compatibility (dropped from recent PlatformSDK since 9x has reached end-of-support).

If you need Unicode support on 9x, look for UNICOWS.

i found the solution.
execute:
sys c:\windows\command\ a:\
restart on a:
exectute:
sys a:\ c:\
and the system is repared.

one other problem come from the DEX4U demovesa code, it was blocking the boot mechanism, to fix the problem, edit the config.sys file.
erase the two first lines:
dos=single and mem=umb
erase the last lines that call the demovesa.exe code

add echap key in your demos... demos that require the boot time execution shall have an escape.. or at least an easy way to exit. thanks

secure contextual menu.
"right click"
then menu:
depend on the location on the screen/
when right click in the bottom right corner, or bottom, the order of items is not changed.
so delete is one of the first items. not secure.
(i hope you see what i mean)

Well, 98 is prone to irrecoverable crashes, but I use it on a machine (pmmx 233MHz), because some times I need access to real DOS, I also use it for word processing, with office 97, of course, and programming.

This machine is off line, since my 98 is not updated and is an open door for all kinds of trojans and exploits.
