Wouldn't it have been nice if Unicode would've been the standard in the first place? Then we wouldn't need useless character sets such as Windows-1251 (or Windows-* for that matter), ISO-8859-*, etc. Razz

That's one thing I've allways liked about Linux/UNIX, out of the box support for Unicode.

My mistake, guys. It won't happen any more. I can understand also russian to a certain extent.

Because in Unicode, you can write in russian, and it displays on any unicode-enabled system as russian, instead of jibbersh. Razz

If you've installed the appropriate character set. For instance slackware is rather badly off regarding the set of the available characters. Debian has a lot more.
