Hi!
I try to write my os and I use bochs to emulate computer, but my FDD doesn`t work, so I can`t make floppy image to use in emulation. What can I do, maybe you can recommend me another PC emulation software?

hi,
as far as i know, you just need to assembly your boot code into floppy image file, then assign it to boch (no need a real workable fd drive) and bochs would gladly boots the emulated pc from your supplied floppy image file.

but my problem is that, floppy image maker from bochs( it has its own file format) makes images from floppy, witch is in FDD, i think so...
But there is the other way. I could make booting from CD, but i don`t know, what diffrences, there would be in that case.

hi! so late cause 've been away.
unfortunally i have no bochs emulator, but can suppose smthng (hope it will not be useless at all Smile )
1.there are a lot of floppy images exists - it should be right if emulator be able to use it: check if it is possible to use some switches in emulator or in floppy2image converting utility - if yes - best solution
2.i see 2 reasons for own image format: compressing and undoing.
if compressing is only to skip unused sectors and you wish to use only boot sector - it is possible to replace it with your with hex editor, and even extract part before and part after and then insert them into your source using "file" directive at the start (first part) and at the end (last part) - not good, but also usable. if undoing or zipping used - too bad then Sad
regards!
