We need network chip and networkboard specifications, programming and application guide, also the source code of some reference drivers in C.

Drivers in binary form designed for other OSes are of very little help... not to say NO help at all.

With compatible NIC's @ ~$3-$5 US it's much easier to change cards.

easy, the source is inside the zip, i think every driver has the sources, for example, the linux driver has the source included an also it say
"Also include text file for instructions to
get and install the driver. You can get the
driver source code from the ftp server
ftp://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/linux/drivers/tulip.c
"
i was looking at the zip and i think that only the linux driver has the sources...

tulip.c? that based on a realtek chip and even linux has not fully supported it ( for me it only worked on 2.2.* kernel...)

maybe it's better to look at the freebsd driver instead of the linux driver cause the freebsd driver has documentation about that hardware.... check this site http://people.freebsd.org/~wpaul/Macronix/
it has the sources and docs

That means you are every condition given to write the driver. What yet does block you? Don't tell me that you don't know assembly. It would merely be a weak humbugging.
