Are you LAZY or DUMB??? This may be a beginning of REAL fonts support! You'd rather speak about how geeky you are instead of something worthwhile... Sadly.

What he meant is people on here would rather talk about this http://board.flatassembler.net/topic.php?t=2975
than say how Great these are "BGI fonts from Ivushkin Andrey" . Loads posted in that topic and not on this topic, If he can not see that geting into magazines etc, can only help MenuetOS in the long run, then whos sad ?. |

Ok, listen:
BGI fonts are VECTOR fonts, which was developed by Borland for their Turbo Pascal in the beginning of 1990s. Now, MenuetOS use only RASTER fonts i.e. images of constant size symbols. With VECTOR fonts you can show symbols with different sizes with fine quality. When anyone embed function for dispaying these fonts in kernel we can start writing real word processor or just do beautiful look for our programs. And AFAIK these fonts already used in RTF reader. Bulgarian team made effort for embedding vector fonts in 2002, but I don't know how succesiful it was. Is it clear now? |

Why BGI fonts, though? There are a lot more truetype fonts than BGI fonts available, and the BGI fonts from borland shipped with pascal (and iirc borland C too) weren't that impressive. And what about license issues of the fonts?

Forgot about all patents, because there are no any official organization against which can be sue by Borland. Do you want TrueType? Just do it! |

Wow, easy now, chum. I don't have much interest in Menuet, but I still wonder why people would go for an inferior solution when better alternatives are available, and have been for a while. Quote:
I doubt there are any patents on BGI fonts, but the font files themselves might be covered by some redistribution license. But you probably don't care much about this in Russia, I guess. Quote:
I'm more interested in a stable and functional kernel than in pretty graphics - but when I add a GUI to my own toy kernel, I'll probably port over freetype to get TT support ![]() |

A solution by definition has completion or finality at it's root.
If it's beta, then the inferiorty issue is moot in that the work is in progress. Optimizing and Modifying MenuetOS will produce more SOLUTIONS. G'day Mark |

Wildwest wrote: AFAIK these fonts already used in RTF reader. This is true. I've implemented BGI fonts (both Outtext & Freetext function) in my RTF reader, but didn't uploaded this version yet. I see people interested in vector fonts, so I perhaps publish both versions in a few days. Thank you for paying attention! As for TrueType fonts, it would be great but mush more difficult. By the way their file sizes are usually 10 times larger than BGI's... _________________ Vivat assembler & MenuetOS! |

Dear Russian Team!
Will you please to upgrade original BGI fonts used in Kolibri 0.5.00 with corrected ones, otherwise Russian texts in some fonts aren't displayed properly. ![]()
