I have been working on my linux box and the thought occured to me what exctly is
the differance or rather whats the similarities of dos and linux as far as kernel comprableness. My understanding in linux is you have vmluz which is the kenel and some boot secter code to boot it. Under dos u have command.com msdos io.sys which one of the three dos files is most = to vmliuz or the kernel????......

command.com = /bin/sh
io.sys + msdos.sys = vmlinuz

Linux is a far more complex kernel than is DOS. It provides support for most of the hardware, loadable driver modules, full memory protection, and multitasking. DOS, being a simpler kernel, doesn't do much at all in comparison. Another difference is that DOS is 16-bit, while Linux is 32-bit. I find 32-bit assembly easier to deal with, but that's my opinion.
