hi all

was wondering if anyone could get me started on a peice of code that will load image files .img .jpg .bmp it s for an image viewer Iam working on for dos
and I just am not sure ware to start short of disassembleing quick view for dos which I have done but cant get it to work so I guess I will have to go from scratch couse iam not very good at hacking. What Iam createing is a commander clone with an image viewer I have been able to get quick view for dos to work with a configuration file but its so clunky and I would like smooth seemless integration which i feel is nicer. anyway if there is anyone who could help I would be greatful

Hi, you can go here and get my dos game (pong.zip), its got a image loader at the start of the program, its only about 81 bytes, it for pcx format, but it may help, also remember that bmp are read from the bottem up, and 24bit is simpler than 256bit, on 24bit there is a simple header (about 54bytes ,with info about size etc) and than you just get size of image - header jump to the bottom left hand cornner, load a row in to memory, move up a row ,still starting at the left side and so on untill you have moved the hole size, when you get the pixals from the bottom you load it in memory to the top.

You can start here:
http://www.programmersheaven.com/zone10/index.htm
and if you read a bit more on DOS forum you will find a jpeg viewer for dos
also take a look at menuetos forum it has programs to view bmp, gif, jpeg.
About disasembling Quick View, why you don´t ask to his author for the sources ?

Actually now there's no links section on FASM site. Web page with description of many file formats is here:

hey thanks for the info really apreciate it.

In answer to your question why not ask for the source code?
Is that most programers want you to pay them
which is as it should be I cant blame them for that. Only thing
is I am a starveing artist type programer and I can not pay them.
so I must find another way. What I have been running into is if they some
how feel that they must give it to you they give it to you with no
configuration file or one that does not work for your system or riddled with
errors or both. in the which you will probably spend weeks reworking and
debugging to finaly get it to compile. So if one has to do that you might just
as well try disassembleing the program it would take near the same amount
of time. Besides if they wanted to give the sources out they could do so
right at the start by putting a note whare to contact for info. Most of
the time I have found that is not the case.
