The only girls that liked programming I actually meet, doesn't feel interested in something beyond VisualBasic.

Girls are somewhat more practical and want the job done. Guys are so interested in "reinventing the wheel"

However there are hacker girls arround (very few)

from my classmates at least two girls are interested in programming. It is C language, because we learn it at school. They seem to be really interested, but I don't know if they have even heard about assembly programs Smile

Hi Matrix,

There are always exceptions in life. You know about Hungarian Polgar sisters, all the three they are very talented chess players, especially Judit.

There are girls-programmers. Less than boys, but not so few. The point is another - according to my observations, the girls simply doesn't visit message boards, because they usually are too "profesional", there are very few female programmers, that are programming zealots. They simply prefer to make the task and then to use the free time for another activities.
Also, there are many girls that simply prefer to not disclosure their gender.
Of course there are exceptions - Several girls are members of win32asmcommunity message boards and one of the most active members of alt.lang.asm are girls too.

Regards.

In all the world, not only in Hungary. There are some jobs that don´t
interest girls at all.
Is also curious that most assembly programmers are from the nord of europe.

Proably that's just their nature - the reason why they don't like football, boxing, hunting, etc as much as we do. And in my opinion it will change in future. Who would think of a women in army a few decades ago? It will be the same with programming.

Girls ARE interested in electronics, communications - engineering in general. Indeed, about 60% of engineering undergraduates in my university were girls. Mechanics were lesser but not by large margin. They were also among the best students.

There are many more girls in other engineering faculties (mechanical, chemical, civil, etc) in my university, with ECE being the least.
The Caucasian one I mentioned before is Albanian btw

The high percentage of Asian (mostly Chinese) students is most likely because of location. There are many many Chinese immigrants here, and they have higher than average ability (especially in mathematics and sciences), so its no surprise many of them make it to engineering.

There are also at least two Polish guys Smile

it seems its a cultural thing... in US boys are expected to be better at mathmatics-mechanical while girls are taught to be creative-artistic. Also since the community is made mostly of men it makes it less attractive to women.

on another note::
We should start a world wide programming guild. thats pointful

Well, well, you are right of course, but I suppose that they ever wrote something...maybe...for DOS... or they once studied how to write in assembly...for DOS...
