http://mpesch3.de Try to contact author and talk about MenuetOS, if you really want an asm-mp3 player. |

fasm9, that still relies on a Windows DLL to decode the MP3 format, so it wouldn't work under a non-Windows OS.

crc.... The source code for that dll is included also. It would be extremely simple to convert that code into fasm, and use it in Menuet..

Cool, I'll take a look at it then. Perhaps I can use it in my OS
*update* The source is in C, so converting it to assembly won't be straightforward, at least not for me. And it's a lot bigger than I'd like. |

As long as we don't end up at his 'bad stuff' page...
The MP3 player for windows is just 40K -UNCOMPRESSED- 20to4 inflates it to a nice 18.044 bytes In other words "Great stuff!" |

@ Tolle I could not agree more. The dos player is outstanding too!
@ Dex4u Sorry 'bout that I know that your name changed I was not thinking. About contacting Ray Ransom (the author) I can contact him by snail mail or by phone to give it that personal touch. If I am fortunate enough to get the source code I'm sure it won't be GPL'd. Who would like to do the front end code? later, Mark |

First thing to do if you can get the code is to convert it to fasm, once you got it to assemble with fasm for dos, then start porting it to MenuetOS,
As a side note if you can not get the code, why not use a mp3 decoder chip, along with one or two parts you can make a com port decoder that any one can make and only cost about £5.00, it would be a great projet for people who use menuet . I have code to program the chips if you want. |

@ Dex4u thanks for the link.
for all This is the draft of the letter I propose to send to the author of the asm mp3 decoder. Please make suggestions if you wish. Mr. Ray Ransom Initially even before I introduce myself, I'd like to thank you for the resources that you provide on your website. Great site! My name is Mark Welch and I am representing an international group of programmers and enthusiasts involved in a project called MenuetOS. For more info (menuetos.org). This OS is written entirely in ASM and is currently in v0.79b. As many of the people involved in this project are not in the US and use English to varying degrees they un-officially volunteered me to contact you. I am aware that you stated that your source is not available. Your dos mp3 player is outstanding and in 33k none the less. It kinda "fits the bill" and IS the wheel that does not need re-inventing. All our advances in this endeavor are hard to come by (as you would know) the addition of an ASM mp3 player would be welcome. Please advise if you have any help you can offer or maybe you could port the app to MenuetOS. Thank you, Mark Welch (GridWorks) |

That looks fine, if he only will do it for payment, may you could start a fund ? .
Also does the "DosBox" port not work well in menuet or is slow as i have not used it in menuet, the dos mp3 player may work in that ??????. Its Worth a try |
