im not sure why but im not getting any useful results from my search.

im looking for lzw compression algorithm to implement, tried to search for RFC lzw documents but nothing good showed up i used other keywords as well.

im not sure if its still patented, help?

a dedicated forum for compression and other stuff like ciphers Shocked
probably have to waste hours, but it looks like a great place to visit - so cool.

Wikipedia's GIF page links to several documents, which I used more than a decade ago to write my own GIF/LZW decoder and encoder:


That and a bunch of GIF files downloaded from the internet was enough.
