My experiment with streaming assembly-related talks has been successful so far.

You can view the past streams on my channel at https://www.twitch.tv/grysztar

They are not going to stay there forever, though - therefore I am also uploading them to YouTube afterwards: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCs_OWSjmFntZqjzSpgJoBhA

If you have an idea of a topic for future installments, please let me know!

Time and revision have certainly hid the octal nature of the encoding. I'd like to suggest a little softer music - maybe, 75-50% percent volume.

A common hurdle for people migrating from other programming languages is structuring control flow. They are used to HLL constructions: WHILE, UNTIL, REPEAT, FOR, etc. The granularity of x86 makes these not very different.

It might be good to preclude this with an explanation of the flags. I'm not sure if you want to explain 2's complement arithmetic, or just reference to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two%27s_complement

Or, maybe you want to continue with more rarified content - historical, eclectic, etc. Compilers produce such a small subset of the instructions. One can debug code for years and never see the diversity.

The problem with Twitch's business model is the exclusivity - they don't want people to monetize on different outlets. Not that it's easy to profit on any of them, imho.

I can suggest for streaming screen resolution 800x600.

Yes, definitely! I have said the same thing a couple of times throughout the stream.

We are still tweaking the sound settings each time. Perhaps the future ones may end up more pleasant for you.

On the other hand, when I do not bother about monetization (I consider these project an extension of this website), their service seems actually great for me - I can stream and share recordings freely on widely supported platforms.

Twitch/YouTube should take care of scaling down the video for low bandwidths, but I see what the problem is - at low resolutions the text becomes completely unreadable. I'm going to increase the font size settings for the future - though not too much, I still prefer to be able to fit many things at once on the screen for cross-reference.

Today was my last stream before holiday break, you could say it's a "holiday episode":

I'm going to get back to streaming in January. I hope we meet then!

The warm-up stream ended up being mostly about UD0: https://youtu.be/bLNMuIxgccM

In the next one (Tuesday, Jan 8th, 09:00 UTC) I'm going to talk about my tricks to run 32-bit core of fasm in long mode. I plan to attempt doing a similar thing for fasmg, showing several new tricks (including customization of fasmg's x86 encoding macros).

Hello, Tomasz.
Today without youtube version? How to download from twitch? I dislike compromise watching online in lowres without frame freezes or watching in at least 720 quality but with freezes.

Oh, OK, I'm going to upload to YouTube then. I hesitated because I'm dissatisfied with quality of today's recording. I'm going to attempt making a better recap tomorrow.

The longer ones take more time to be processed by YouTube. It is up now.

The road to protected mode series enters a new chapter.

Starting from today's session I'm exploring 16-bit protected mode of 286 to show some of its fine design points that were later lost when adapting the same structures to work in 32-bit and 64-bit world.

The start has been a bit rough, but I hope that once we get going, things should become more clear and interesting.

I'm going to have a trouble sticking to the schedule this week, so I suspend the streaming temporarily. I'm going to let you know in a few days what is it going to look like.

Unfortunately, I have to suspend streaming for a few weeks, because of some serious health issues. Any fasm development is also going on hiatus, but I should be able to at least post on forums.

If you take care of yourself the way you do fasm, then you should be back working in no time. The human body has amazing powers of regeneration and preservation. Hope you are feeling better.

I may try to do some test runs this week, though I'm still not ready to resume with a serious streaming schedule. Please let me know if you'd like to join and when.

In the meantime, I started working again on my file formats tutorial. There are so many interesting things to cover!
