as follows, my notebook dvd is broken and UNetBootIn was used for dvd1 2 usb to install the os
i'm new to linux and i'm curious of the apps on those dvds, hence nube time spent in search of clearity and simplicity gave me great experience i'm glad to share:

Well if you have an internet connection you don't need those extra DVDs at all, just install them with apt-get? For what it's worth, I use Linux Mint.

When you install with apt-get you can archive the packages, which get downloaded to /var/cache/apt/archives so you can back them up for a time when you want to reinstall without internet Wink

Or you can remove them manually or with apt-get clean or whatever.

You are not required to download all DVDs to install, you could just download the CD which is much smaller and have a functional OS.

The other DVDs, as far as I know, just include additional software.

If you download all the DVDs the result is (as far as I know) that you will have all the packages already there (no need to download).

But they may take a considerable amount of space.

I am running Debian as my main operating system for some time.

To me, it seems it is not the best choice if you are not experienced and wants the most recent software installed.
