Tiny and fast of this OS is really good, but we would wonder onto some specific application, for example, fax receiving and forwarding to local email recipient. Currently some bulky OS (i.e. netbook) is used for same process but it has been routine reboot required.

hi Ville,
the OEM and brand name of such usb fax modem is manufactured by Conxant & used turn key solution, the final product itself is usually distributed by PC manufacturers, this is the one used in last few years, they manifested different USB descriptor string.

Hi Xiao, The device seems to use USB communications class, which would be a nice addition for Menuet. I'll try to find that device over here and get back to you in a few days.

Hi Xiao. I havn't found the device here, but I've ordered one from abroad. It'll take a couple of weeks to arrive. I'll get back to you then!

Hi Xiao.

The Conexant modem arrived a few days ago and I can now communicate with the device. It does follow the USB CDC protocol.

However, the cdc-asm subclass does not define the actual used protocol at the interface level. And the modem is not responding to standard Hayes compatible commands. Also, when I try this with Windows, it requires an external driver to function, so the actual used command set could very well be device specific, which is allowed by usb cdc-acm.

However, I keep looking into this and get back to you when I have more answers.

Ville,
any PID / VID pairs discovered at your plugged-in & fire up?
this may help with win7 or above, but xp was buggy for those supplied driver.

Hi Xiao. The Menuet driver is already working fine until the point of sending the actual Hayes commands. I can initialize the device and read the descriptors fine in M64. So the Hayes commands might use a device specific wrapper.

If the device would be a pure usb cdc-acm device, it would likely work plugandplay in Windows (VID:PID 17EF:7000) without any external drivers. Also in Linux, its listed as (non-standard) softmodem.
