Hi, Just like debian installer.

1.Boot from MenuetOS-Floppy
2.Using it to partition/format HDD
3.Install MenuetOS itself to HDD
4.Dang! reboot, and boot from HDD.

PS: still i want MenuetOS as linux GUI, though this is just another issue..

I think this is almost as important as providing a shell. Menuet should move beyond a single floppy sized OS and to better things (Though a demo/install floppy would still be cool).

One thing though: it shouldn't be like the debian installer. You should select the hard drive, the partition (create one if needed), and confirm your choices. The base system should be installed without going through all of the crap debian forces on those installing it!

I really don't think MenuetOS should be [by default] a HD OS.
A bit of flexibility when booting would be good - maybe multiboot compliance - but with a multiboot bootloader in asm? that way if you want you can put it on HD with GRUB (or the native loader if possible).
I think booting from HD by having a FD image on it is a bit screwy.

That would be great Smile. the name & location of the loader programme (LAUNCHER) could be passed as an argument, with video mode, memory size (or GRUB or the bootloader could tell us this via it's own count), etc.

PS: You (fasm9) said you want Me'OS to be a GUI for Linux... I don't see the advantage (considering that X11 is indeed faster - at 200MHZ, you notice these things Wink - though that may be due to slow multitasking or something in MeOS), and how would it be implemented? all new code that implements the MenuetOS API?

*EDIT*: Don't count on anything happening, but on the weekend (when I have access to my FreeBSD machine rather than this windows monstrosity) I will look at the Linux emulation code of FreeBSD and see if i can throw together a bit of a MenuetOS syscall. It aint Linux, but with Linux emulation, you might be able to run Debian or your flavour of choice on it.

Me too. I want Menuet to move beyond loading a floppy image into RAM and actually support use of the hard drive and floppies in a normal fashion. FD images are useful for testing/demo, but not as good if you actually want to use it on a day to day basis.
