usefull frankenstein build,
That is very comprehensive. Smile

But we will always have that worry that it might not be enough. Sad

Spying is the norm within MS. Turning it off makes the user stand out as unusual. How did we get into this type of world? SadSad

My humble opinion:
xp/sp2 was the best OS I ever had.
Win10 was the worst ever.
Tired of being force fed, moving on to debian linux for my dev environment, for anything online I just use my smart phone, android is pretty solid.
None of my windows machines online anymore, I feed them by hand.
The future brings us microcontrollers and microkernels, get used to ARM and Minix style systems, they are coming.

Meanwhile, the Windows 10 update problems continue to mount. Adding the BSOD reports to the list, since September there have now been boot failures, broken printing, Search and Start Menu bugs (yes, again), USB and audio problems, screen discolouration, spiked CPU usage and broken Internet connectivity.

With Microsoft now forcing one of its buggiest Windows 10 builds on users, I expect to be back with reports of more problems soon.

Microsoft is testing ads in WordPad in Windows 10
Quote:
... there are a total of six banner ads: "Try Word online for free", "Try Word for free online", "Try Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for free online", "Use Word for free online", "Use Word, Excel, and PowerPointfor free online", and "Try Office for free online".
So why would MS be so enthusiastic for people to use their "free" online editing stuff? I'm sure it can't be because then they have all of your data in their grubby little hands, right? No, it can't be that. I'm sure it is out of the goodness of their hearts. Rolling Eyes

hypothetically, you, revo, could write proper software if not for all these chit-chat (and your own greediness)

This isn't directly related to Win10, but it is from the same company, MS.

Microsoft’s sneaky plan to switch Chrome searches from Google to Bing
Quote:
Microsoft announced today that, beginning in February 2020, Office365 Pro Plus installs and updates will include a Chrome extension that forcibly changes the default search engine to Microsoft's own search engine, Bing.
They have absolutely no respect for others.

Modern productivity has been dramatically reduced with the removal of the ASK toolbar from recent internet browsers. While you are installing Bing and Candy Crush on everything, could you also please automatically install the ASK toolbar to allow us to continue to diversify our leading edge value-added services for our clients?

Three more.

https://www.computerworld.com/article/3519270/the-optional-non-security-update-for-win10-version-1909-kb-4532695-runs-zero-for-two.html
Quote:
Unfortunately, it's still a crummy experience. For example, it takes two clicks at times to reset the caret position, stopping you dead in your tracks. Search box continues to be a façade that can't be right-clicked until it's activated (e.g. via left-click). Advanced Query Syntax keywords, operators, and filters are no longer highlighted in blue, either. And deleting items didn't make it in. I doubt we'll see that get serviced; we'll likely have to wait for 20H1 release [Win10 version 2004] to get that [feature].

Microsoft has yet to acknowledge the new problems with Explorer and there don’t appear to be any workarounds. If you have installed Windows 10 November 2019 Update [version 1909], you have to accept the possibility of experiencing issues with File Explorer and Control Panel.

yup im not sure if it was this update or not but it was one of the ones that came out this morning. It has totally disabled my sound from my soundblaster sound-card and my nvidia video card. I rolled everything back and my sound is still disabled. Maybe its the security update because i can't remove that.

Also I noticed it disabled my readyboost drives as well.

What a crock of poop! Not the way i wanted to spend my day thats for sure!!!

I am getting so fed up with windows I am thinking of switching Operating Systems to Linux. I am tired of MS bugs and failures wrecking my day, my projects and my life!

So looks like in order to get my sound back i'm going to have to reinstall windows!!! FFS! If thats what it comes to i'm done. if I have to go through all that I might as well just install linux.

Microsoft’s efforts to integrate its cloud services on Windows 10 has just backfired for the company. Windows 10’s Search feature has been hit with what appears to be some pretty widespread issues.

Windows Search is currently returning blank results if you search for apps, files or web, and it looks like the problem is with Microsoft’s Bing.

MS is a multi-billion dollar company, why can't it get this stuff right? I guess they are putting all their resources into spying and tracking everything possible in more and more intrusive ways.

The KB4532693 update is allegedly causing much more serious headaches for some users. A newer report by Windows Latest cites multiple users in their comments section complaining that the data is nowhere to be found and allegedly not recoverable.

“My desktop is black, icons are gone, Taskbar and Start menu are also empty. Uninstalled the update and my data is still missing, I cannot find it anywhere,” wrote one frustrated Windows 10 user.

Others are echoing this specific issue on the Microsoft Answers forum. One user writes “Count yourself lucky to have a temporary account. My Surface Pro 7 lost everything, as it's gone and there are no extra user accounts. It will take two days to put it back to something I might want to use.”
But wait there's more.

Every time my PC updates my desktop wallpaper goes back to default, and all saved icons, favorites, passwords, etc are gone. Every. Single. Time. This is getting tiring and I'm losing so much time at work saving my icons again, paswords, etc. What is going on? It’s almost as if the computer is set back to default after every update. Please help. I've tried quite a few things to fix and no luck.

Modern Windows is like a backup. If you don't test it, you don't have it. And they don't test Windows anymore. At least, not anywhere close to how they used to.

they just push those shits out directly to customers nowadays,
https://thewincentral.com/windows-10-updates-kb4532693-kb4524244-causing-many-issues-report-users/

and let customers test for them, if got issues, remove from windows update, call it a day, repeat again, Laughing

so, no reason to turn on system protection, because if shit happened, you can't restore back that damn previous shit too, they are shits after all,

If MS is hinging its development on telemetry, that seems like a huge operational security hole. If anyone finds a way to pollute telemetry then they could maliciously misdirect resources. Trying to secure the data with the vetting of telemetry in a multi-tiered approach would mean they're abusing their most valued customers the most. Very Happy

Why would anyone use any other build than LTSB/LTSC?

Because it is expensive, and it is overkill if all one wants it for is to avoid updates.
