Hi all!

when testing the Quetannon app I couldn`t make two running instaces to connect each other. Here what I did.

First I started the Quetannon on the first computer. The IP I have learned from the WhatIsMyIP.com service - I entered into the edit box. I entered a port number also and pressed "Listen". It started listening.

Then I went to another office and ran the second instance of the application. The IP which I entered was the same, the port number as well. Then I pressed "Connect", but the connection failed. ("Connection refused.")

What I did wrong?

I need to see that two Quetannon instances on two different machines are able to connect each other.
Hopefully to get more knowledge for writing my own instant messenger.

You used the wrong IP or did not set up forwarding. Online sites can only tell you your internet IP not your LAN IP so you either need to find your local address (ipconfig and winsock API will tell you) or set up port forwarding in your router to forward your connection back to the other machine.

1. If you are on a LAN just add Quetannon.exe to your Windows Firewall exception list on both machines.

2. If you are on a WAN, open the desired ports in your Router/Firewall and then add Quetannon.exe to your Windows Firewall as well.

3. Or simply use a relay server.
