Hey guys, here is a dream come true: Keychains that require no batteries, just a little piece of radioactive waste and it glows nicely for 10+ years.

Ummm... just wondering: keychains are pretty close to ...
Is the coolness worth the risk?

Depends on how much you value your life.

It is said the radiation of these will not escape the capsule unless you break it,

it is also possible to make these out of some radioactive waste laying around a blown up reactor.

Would you feel comfortable with one in your pocket?

If you read the reviews on amazon for the linked item http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006YXWN2//ref=cm_sw_su_dp?tag=relprods-20
It appears to be a scam, using photoluminescent paint (glow in the dark, light charged) instead of any rare/exotic material.

Well, I'm off to dig a moat around my house and fill it with atomic waste so it will glow at night and look cool...

Hi r22

i don't know if it is a scam or not, but radioactive stuff + phosphor = light, that is 100% sure.

Anyway a battery and a high efficiency led work fine, and it can glow with the same brightness for a very long time.

Btw, Radioactive Tritium does not diffuse through materials like Hydrogen?

Why not use Tritium oxid (T2O - radioactive water) instead? That would be easy to contain for 20 years... Wink

i wanted to find it.. it was there since 20 years ago or since earlier.
