No such thing as a free pc, unless you can get "free samples" but somebody will pay for it anyway.
You can have however open hardware with free software like
Olimex A20 with linux
So you know what chips are in your pc, unfortunately, the chips are still a closed black boxes, so you don't know what it really does.
FPGA's are much worse black box, they are like unknown amount of black boxes in a black box, and your programming environment is about 99% bloat() (gigabytes) to render it hard to reverse.
