http://myfileformats.com/ used to work many years ago, but now:

Code:
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40">
<head>
    <title>myfileformats.com</title>
    <meta name="keywords" value="jpeg,tiff,png,adobe,pdf,graphics,zip,images,pdf files,zip file,xml,compression,file conversion,viewer,bitmap,xml file,color copying"/>
    <meta name="description" content="myfileformats.com">
    <script type="text/javascript" src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.8.3/jquery.min.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    $(document).ready(function() {
        $('#main').attr('src', "/cf.php");
        $('#main').css('visibility','visible');
    });
    </script>
</head>
<frameset rows="100%,*" frameborder="no" border="0" framespacing="0">
<frame id="main" src="/cf.php"></frame>
<frame id="sub1" src="bh.php?dm=myfileformats.com&kw=&tt=f0a1ec6b84aa9864974ab4f577ec8192&ty=false" style="visibility: hidden;"></frame>
</frameset>
</html>

http://wotsit.org/ used to work until cca 2 years ago, but now none of the downloads works. Anyone is able to download from them?

Anyone has a BIG collection of file formats? I have only a small one Sad

What about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_file_formats ?

Probably a good starting point for further searches.

A lot of websites seem to rot or disappear (even Garbo and Simtel). That's one of the worst aspects of the Web (not counting things that should be mirrored but aren't).

Anyways, I don't have it locally, but I vaguely remember FFE002.ZIP or similar ("File Format Encyclopedia"). A quick search shows this with links to various things:
