100% belief equal to 0% open mind.

Sometimes there're reasons to not believe.

But let's stay on topic:
Let us then try and imagine how the billions of neurons in the brain and their tireless activity are able to create logics, emotions, will and fantasy. And passion, desire, sense of beauty and justice. And that clear perception that something within us transcends ourselves: that consciousness and longing for infinity that we love calling “soul”.

i think most of us read about this, AI,

when you can't distinguish an AI respond or a human respond, basically the AI behave totally like a human,

does the AI then got soul like human?

and what make all of us not some kinda AI created inside this matrix?

and what if death is like a brain reformat and reborn, i mean, nobody know the truth unless they experience death and come back.

and that experience too is subjected to maybe brain chemical manipulation, imagination, see tunnels, tree of life, hallucination and so on,

we are so far away from truth.

AI can't love, but it can make coffee for you.

I never have such perceptions. IMO, they can be only a result of not proper education.

well, idk how you define love, but if that AI is able to respond like human, that actually mean, the AI is able to let you feel loved, just like other human capable to let you feel loved.

when there is no way to differentiate AI respond or human respond, you might start question if you are AI, and that AI might start question too if it is human.

now, far away 1000 years from now, in your opinion, is science capable to produce AI that respond exactly as if it is human?

@John:

Our knowledge is limited to 2%.
The rest 98% is a challenge for our imagination.

So never say never.

Yes, why not. With nanotechnology. Just like we copied the wings of birds and made airplanes, we can copy the technology of our body and make a.i. in the future. AI will be more clever than human, but without soul, cuz soul isn't body, it's maybe something we can't gasp, just assume like we do about gravity and infinity.

glad to hear that,

now for a moment,

when the AI is exactly like human, and like you said, probably more cleaver than human,

could you then "differentiate" phone call made by robot AI or a human?
as you said, soul isnt body, assume you got 2 avatar in front of you, one is controlled by AI and another one controlled by human, could you "differentiate" them?

now, is "soul" a distinguish feature, attribute that able to let you "differentiate" AI or human?

if the answer is "no", then having a soul or no is not important, because people could still perceive you as human even without a soul.

if the answer is "yes", then what is that distinguish feature that you can test to know if avatar A or B got soul, when both behave like a human?

It depends on the AI level. If it's real AI you won't be able to tell the difference - obviously, buttttttt that doesn't mean it's a being with soul.
Maybeee with a high tech lie detector haha i don't know rly ;s.

Asimov has a great novel called: "Prelude to Foundation".
It describes a robot, which can't be detected as a robot without a deep dissection.
It can be in love too. Awesome stuff!

It was time the Catholic church argued that the Negros and Indians have no soul. It was very useful for the genocide.
