Hurry up, jailbreak, root, and develop on an open platform while it's still legal guys!

Then pray that some idiot lawmaker-on-corporate-payroll turns "Secure" Boot into a law, hahaha!
I've already seen quite a few cases of UEFI being a PITA on Windows 8 notebooks and BIOS "off" switches that don't seem to stick.

Making it possible to use your device with a different phone provider than the one it was first "intended" to work with.

Here's an idea, maybe TVs should be locked to a satellite service or cable provider. Hope US law makers aren't watching this thread!

AsmGuru62,

Locking a phone ties the phone to a particular carrier (ATT, Verizon, ..). Unlocking a phone that you own allows you to pick your provider.

I see.
It is a serious issue then.

Another question:
Say, a person has a contract for 3 years with the cell company.
Person gets a phone with the contract for say, $50 (it costs much more, say $400 or so).
Does person own the phone or not?
