Tablet PCs are getting more and more powerful these days,
and the mantra "Tablet PCs are for content consumption only, PCs/notebooks are for content creation" is not 100% true anymore.

Now we can create contents on these tablets, albeit in limited way, e.g:
1. Image editing: Photoshop Touch for Android, Photoshop Touch for iOS
2. Music recording: Garageband for iOS, Auria LE
3. Coding: AIDE, Gambit REPL

I'd love to see Visual Studio, Eclipse, etc run on tablets, which means we can develop apps directly on tablets. PCs/notebooks are not strictly needed anymore.

Aside from the fact that these development tools are not developed with tablet usage in mind, tablets have several physical limitations, e.g:
1. Small display
2. Typing on on-screen keyboad is not that convenient.
3. etc

So my question is what kind of features that will enable tables to replace PCs/notebooks in the future? This is my guess at the moment:

Holographic display

Holographic keyboard

What do you think?
BTW I'm not sure whether those 2 things are already possible by our latest technology, and even if we can achieve those, probably the price will be very
expensive. Laughing

hands moving as tablet input is too energy consume!
unless girls want to use it as exercise to please their husband / boyfriend later =)

mouse & keyboard are here to stay,

but imo, in 5 years time, they will design touch screen that able to let users feel the present of keyboard button, something like dual layers stuff,
it could float up/float down,

and probably now, we could make mouse that never need to move, the camera sense our eye sight movement, we just use mouse for left/right click, (that would be really awesome)

but i guess, a high sensitivity camera & resolution would able to complete my 2nd idea, it is possible, we just keep on sensing our eye ball and focus on the controls, even if we need to move mouse, that would be minimal distance.

That's why I mentioned virtual keyboard. Keyboard will be here to stay, but not in its old physical form anymore. Smile

I like tablets..to play online chess in bed.. Touch pad is a decent way to accomplish this. Screen technology, however feels disorienting after a while. Lower brightness seems to help but not enough. Id like to see color eink, oled, mirasol, liquavista, pixel qi and whatever else is in decelopment - in action.

Im also responding to this thread on a tablet. To play chess, read and write email, get info off websites..and even search and annotate pdfs etc its pretty functional.
