Of course, the POSIX crowd will never switch away from C/C++, but on Windows you presumably have to use what everyone else uses (MSVC, MinGW, C#/.NET, etc).
Classic C isn't bad, but it's definitely too complicated. Classic Pascal wasn't badly designed either, but it couldn't do everything for everyone.
Possibly interesting point: "Classic C" was not much more but a stripped-down version of (B)CPL, designed with fitting it into the limited hardware they had in mind, while Pascal has always been a portable language.
